Looking Back
A thousand years from now,
I’m married to my wife,
As she sleeps away I’m trying to remember the first time,
The first time I meet her smiling face,
And from then on our paths crossed many times,
From fights over her to the first time I had asked her out,
Helped for years in school and goofed around,
But I never could have thought that I would be married to her,
A thousand years ago,
Her father left her and her mother forever,
So I picked her up dusted her off and told her that everything is going to be fine,
And now I look at how far I’ve come,
My family is divided,
I lost my friend to lead,
With a cousin dead over drugs,
Then my friends and my wife picked me up so that I too could move ahead,
And now I’m here with my wife to make sure that we have a happy ending,
With kids and a life that shines like our lives could have,
So a lesson learned is a lesson used to make it better,
And now I can close my eyes sleeping peacefully knowing that my life is better,
Better with my wife in my arms with all my friends by my side.
